Helen Marano launched her new company in January 2019 to further the value and importance of Travel & Tourism for the economic development and social benefits of global communities. Her experience and expertise in policy development, government, and industry relations encourage thought leadership and cooperation among stakeholders for improving the environment for Travel & Tourism to flourish sustainably. She serves as a Special Advisor for the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). Helen is an experienced speaker and passionate advocate on the value of the industry.
Previously, Helen served as Executive Vice-President of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and continues to serve as Special Advisor. She built the Government and Industry Affairs Department for the advocacy efforts of WTTC in presenting the industry perspective to government leaders and organizations. In forming the External Affairs Department, she expanded the engagement of WTTC and the T&T industry with academia and other key tourism stakeholders.
Helen is a seasoned leader, having previously led the National Travel & Tourism Office of the United States for over a decade. This involved industry relations, policy formation, and oversight and interpretation of the statistical system for T & T for the USA. Her key accomplishments included overseeing negotiations for the opening up of Chinese group travel for the USA, building the first US Travel & Tourism Satellite Account for measuring the economic impact of the sector, serving as the Chair for the Tourism Working Group of APEC, and collaborating in the formation of the Brand USA Corporation for marketing the USA.
Her career spans key positions in a top destination management organization (Orlando), a leading market research firm (The Gallup Organisation), and ten years in the financial services industry.
Helen was recognized at ITB with the ‘2019 Celebrating Her Award’ by the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism for building global alliances that promote Tourism as a force for good.
Helen serves on: the Independent Experts Group for Child Protection and Human Trafficking in Travel and Tourism; the Advisory Board of the International Border Management and Technologies Association; the Advisory Board for the University of Surrey School of Hospitality and Tourism Management; the Executive Advisory Board for the International Transportation Security Leadership Forum; and the Advisory Board for the International Summit on Borders.
